Male Causes

Vasectomy:

Procedure by which the vas deferens is occluded and its purpose is to generate obstructive azoospermia, as a contraceptive method in man. There is a procedure called recanalization of the vas deferens, this procedure aims to reverse occlusion of the vas deferens allowing again the presence of sperm in the ejaculate.

It is estimated that between 2 and 6% of men who have undergone a vasectomy will wish to undergo tubal recanalization, the main reason being the desire to conceive. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) a man is considered infertile with total sperm counts less than 20 million / ml. Or the inability to achieve fertilization of an ovule, there is more than one factor as causes of this problem. Among the alterations that we can find are decreased sperm mobility (astenoospermia), abnormal sperm forms (teratoospermia), decreased sperm count (oligoospermia), this in terms of sperm characteristics, but there are also other conditions such as They are varicocele, degenerative diseases, smoking addiction to certain drugs, to name a few.

Astenozoospermia:

It refers to the altered motility of the sperm, where within the movement characteristics there are two that we must always investigate called motility A, B and A + B.

Oligozoospermia:

It refers to an amount of sperm less than 20 million / ml, this is a frequent cause of male infertility, and the origin of this low will always be fundamental, since according to the above the appropriate treatment will be applied for each case.

Teratozoospermia:

We speak of abnormal forms in a sperm count when less than 14% of normal forms are seen in the total sample (according to Kruger criteria).

Azoospermia:

It is defined as the total absence of sperm, being this secretory (origin in the testicle) or obstructive (occlusion at the level of the vas deferens). In both cases, complementary studies should always be carried out, such as testosterone determination, FSH and if the case merits, karyotype.

Today we have a wide range of treatments for each of the alterations that could alter sperm characteristics, from general measures to the use of assisted reproduction techniques.

Varicocele:

It is the presence of an increased testicular venous plexus, generating venous reflux causing this, an increase in testicular temperature, affecting the sperm count and characteristics.
There are great controversies about the treatment to follow, since surgery is one of the options, we consider that each case should be evaluated in particular in order to make the best decision for the benefit of our partners.
